Is Here to Help

Our Emergency Relief Team has options for you that can help you. Please contact us at mortgageservicingunit@vystarcu.org or via phone at 904-908-2424 or 800-445-6289, ext. 2424, option 2 (hardship) or 3 (insurance claim).

We can assist with other types of disasters that might affect more than just your home. We are here to help our members with any type of property damage or disasters, both personal and area-wide. We are here to assist with the coordination and processing of your insurance claims and repairs. Please keep us informed.

Beyond Your Home

We understand that disasters, even away from your home, can cause financial difficulties. For example, if you are experiencing a financial hardship because of a disaster at your workplace that caused you to lose income, we can help. Our credit union is designed to help people through their financial difficulties, so we encourage you to let us know your situation. VyStar has various options that may be workable for you.  

Steps Toward Recovery From Your Property Damage
1. Contact your homeowners insurance company; report the damage. Many have websites in addition to their toll-free numbers. Be patient. This is a very important step. Be sure to ask when the adjuster will be out, and when to expect any claim checks. Claim checks are generally made payable to the insured (homeowner) AND the lien holder (VyStar Credit Union).
2. Call the VyStar Relief Team at 904-908-2458 or 800-445-6289, ext. 2458. Our team is ready to work with you. We will talk with you about the flexibility of loan payments during this time, and we will work with you and your insurance company to help get your home back to its proper shape.
3. Receive the insurance check and start the repair process. Because VyStar’s name will be with yours on the insurance check as the mortgage provider, we will need to also endorse the check. Please notify us as soon as you get your check, or visit your local branch. We will give you the information and forms you need to move forward with repairs. Please do not endorse the check until you talk with us.
How does VyStar handle the necessary repairs and insurance checks? If your home requires minor repairs and your loan is current, depending upon your current situation, we generally do not oversee the repair process. We would typically put your name on the check so you can make the necessary repairs.
For significant damage or loans that are not current, VyStar will help monitor the repairs to your home to ensure your property is restored.  VyStar’s process will help protect you from incomplete repairs and potential fraud. We are here to help you through the entire process. In this case, you will be required to endorse the insurance check and send it to VyStar. 
When you visit one of our branches or call us, we will give you the details of how to process the check.
4. Keep track of the repair process. As you move through the repair process, please remember to include your mortgage loan on any information you send VyStar. And keep copies of ALL documents for your files. We will work closely with you during the entire process.
